Eric and I want to offer our upcoming FREE 3-day set of poetry classes on silence and voice as a place of pause and balance in unbalanced times. We start today. Simply click here to be registered.

We want to help give voice to the voiceless, to listen to the silence, to break uncomfortable silences, and find solace and strength in sacred silence.

You might feel busy and might think you don't have time for anything else. But what I've found is that, instead of being one more thing on my to-do list, poetry rejuvenates me and gives me more spaciousness in my life.

And in my 20+ years of teaching, the single most important factor in whether a writer is successful or not is her ability to show up for herself, to make time in her schedule.

We don't want this class to be yet one more thing on your to-do list, but instead something that truly supports you in your voice and your life.

In the free series, together we'll listen, we’ll learn, we’ll sit in silence, we’ll move, and we’ll write.

We’ll be teaching how to make your writing both more precise and more nuanced, more full of power and music.

We’ll explore how to use poetry to connect to the sacred and to gain greater expressive and emotional freedom and balance.

We’ll be looking closely at poems by poets like Rilke, Harjo, Laux, Baca, Plath, Celan, Oliver, and Hayden.

These poets all write out of very difficult times and also out of great wonder.

Over the three free classes, you’ll write three new poems.

We hope that whatever's happening around you, we can guide you to write poetry with new tools, new energy, and from a larger perspective.

As the poet Zbigniew Herbert, who lived under great political repression, wrote: "The poet expresses the deepest feelings and the widest awareness of people. … The language of poetry differs from the language of politics. And, after all, poetry lives longer than any conceivable political crisis. The poet looks over a broad terrain and over vast stretches of time.”

We begin today, Monday, September 28th, when we'll release our first 30-minute teaching that you can access on your own schedule– you’ll have 10 days to work with the recordings on your own time.
