Setting Intentions for the New Year

I'm excited to share the recording of this week's Live Zoom Session, Setting New Year Intentions for Your Writing, with you!

In this session, I invite you to dream and vision with me. We breathe, meditate, and respond to writing prompts; we explore the relationship between our bodies, our spirits, and our writing; and we devise some practical ways to meet our intentions for the new year.

You can use this session to set intentions for your writing as well as dreams beyond your writing...

You'll have a chance to explore both your big vision and the particular, granular ways you can make that vision come true in 2024.

For me, my writing is usually in service of a larger vision for my life that I can only come to know, in part, through language and through the questions I ask myself.

Here are some of the questions I'm thinking about right now:

How do I meet 2024 and all that it may hold with continued light and steadiness? How can I continue to honor my creative voice this year? How can I continue to share my experiences in ways that are at once authentic and resonant beyond the self?

What about you? What is calling you?

In the session, we:

  • Dispel the four myths of creativity
  • Work through a simple practice to locate a specific place of intuition from which to write—and live
  • Go through two meditation and writing prompts to set intentions on both the macro and micro levels for your creative life (and beyond).
  • Answer questions about how to get through old habits and come into better creative practices

Get a pen and paper and come to a comfortable place to watch! And let me know what you think--or if you have other questions 🙂

Get a pen and paper and come to a comfortable place to watch the video below. We begin around minute 3:48. Enjoy 🙂

with smiles,

Setting intentions is crucial.

And then we need practices to help us follow through.

Similarly, intellectually understanding and busting through those four old cultural myths of creativity is important, but it's only a first step: then we need to practice and put into place new habits--because our cultural heritage is long and old and needs active re-working.

Next week's brand New 7-Day New Year Meditation and Writing Challenge gives you a concrete practice to start meeting your intentions and put into place new ways to approach your creative life! You can use the Challenge to write new pieces or to work on an existing project. And you can enjoy it no matter what genre—or art form—you prefer.

I loved putting this new Challenge together and am excited to share it!

We're going to be taking a journey into the roots of who we are and the sources of our writing and creative life. The journey will go deep and also enliven and empower you.

It doesn't take long—only 15 minutes a day—and you can do it on your own schedule.

Each day, for seven days, I'll send out a 15-minute recording with a guided meditation, a poem, and a writing prompt.

The program comes with access to a private Facebook group for support from me and community engagement. Writing need not be solitary!

We start on Wednesday, January 17th, when I'll send out the first recording. We're going to have a great week together, and I'd love to see you there!

Can't do it now? No worries, sign up and you can access the recordings later; once you enroll, you have lifetime access to the recordings!

I've designed the challenge around some of the themes of my poetry book I Say the Sky, and if you purchase the book, I completely waive the cost of the challenge.
